چکیده

Research objectives Singapore introduced Casemix-based financing for inpatient and day-surgery cases in the public sector in 1999. The application of Casemix has since been extended beyond financing to fields such as benchmarking, clinical quality and utilization review. Casemix data has been invaluable in enabling the tracking and better understanding of quality of care of healthcare providers, as well as providing a view to better managing them. In this paper, we discuss the use of Casemix data based on a recent study of hospital readmission rates. The study subsequently led to the incorporation of this indicator into the Ministry of Health’s Scorecard for Acute Hospitals.

Same-Hospital Readmission Rates as a Measure of Pediatric Quality of Care.

IMPORTANCE Health care systems, payers, and hospitals use hospital readmission rates as a measure of quality. Although hospitals can track readmissions back to themselves (hospital A to hospital A), they lack information when their patients are readmitted to different hospitals (hospital A to hospital B). Because hospitals lack different-hospital readmission (DHR) data, they may underestimate a...

Reduced length of uninterrupted institutional stay after implementing a fast-track protocol for primary total hip replacement

Background and purpose - Fast-track protocols have been successfully implemented in many hospitals as they have been shown to result in shorter length of stay (LOS) without compromising results. We evaluated the effect of fast-track implementation on the use of institutional care and results after total hip replacement (THR). Patients and methods - 3,193 THRs performed in 4 hospitals between 20...
